BIG NEWS: We are back on the road and our new truck for this long awaited PHASE 3 of our World tour is : a Mitsubishi Pajero.
We have opted for extra comfort and added a roof tent and an awning.

MARCH 2019 – PHASE 1 & 2
Our choice of vehicle to use on the trip was a lengthy process. It is after all, going to be our home on wheels for at least twelve months. We knew it had to be reliable and robust enough to be able to cope with the demanding road conditions we knew we would encounter en route with some ability to do a limited amount of off roading. It had to be four wheel drive with high ground clearance and with a truck bed large enough for us to sleep in and enough space for storing all our food, clothes, cooking equipment and other essentials.
With the help of a German friend we finally found something that ticked all the boxes. A 2013 Nissan Navara. It was bought in Germany as we wanted a left hand drive vehicle and imported back into the UK. Its a ‘crew cab’ version which means it has a small passenger compartment with a couple of fold down seats. To give you some idea of the comfort level as a passenger in the truck think of your standard Ryanair seat and reduce the amount of leg space by about 50%. Yes its that cramped! However, its ideal for storing essential items like cameras that we need readily to hand and, by being small means the truck bed is just large enough for us to sleep in without having to adopt a foetal position!
Other than adding an expensive cover to the truck bed we’ve not made any major modifications. We fitted a large roof box for lighter items such as clothes and a roof rack intended to store ‘smelly things’ like jerry cans full of spare diesel. One ‘luxury’ item fitted was a 1500 watt inverter inside the passenger cab that allows us to charge up things such as laptops and run light appliances like a hair dryer and possibly a kettle at a push!
So far its covered over 40,000 km without any major issues and hopefully will continue to prove reliable for the remainder of our trip…
